Case Studies of the Technical Benefits of Active Harmonic Filters in the Central Broadcasting and Television of North Khorasan (Bojnur)
Honam Part Energy Company installed a 15 Amp 3-phase Active Harmonic Filter in the Bojnur Broadcasting and Television Project to improve the power quality of the electrical network. The company designed this filter to reduce harmonic distortion (THD) and increase the stability of electrical equipment, especially for nonlinear loads such as the equipment of the decoder hall and the encoders of the broadcast hall that are powered by a UPS. With an input voltage of 400 V and the ability to compensate for harmonics of order 2 to 50, this system provides an effective solution for sensitive operating conditions. Honam Part Energy updated this project on August 6, 2025, demonstrating its commitment to innovation in the power industry.
Implementation Process
Honam Part Energy’s technical team began an initial assessment of the electrical network and identified nonlinear loads. The team identified the points of common connection (PCC) for the filter installation and selected a suitable location. The experts carefully calibrated the device and integrated it into the existing UPS system. The team performed initial tests with a Fluke power quality analyzer and recorded accurate data before compensation. After the filter was activated, its automatic adjustment quickly reduced harmonics and restored network stability.
Harmonic measurement table before and after compensation
| Phase | Current (Ampere) | Voltage (volts) | THDI (%) قبل | THDI (%) بعد | THDU (%) قبل | THDU (%) before |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phase one | ۸.۶۲ | ۲۲۹.۶ | ۷۸.۵ | ۲.۰ | ۰.۶ | ۰.۵ |
| Phase Two | ۷.۲۹ | ۲۳۰.۱ | ۹۰.۶ | ۳.۳ | ۱.۲ | ۱.۱ |
| Phase Three | ۷.۲۷ | ۲۳۰.۵ | ۶۱.۶ | ۱.۹ | ۰.۴ | ۰.۴ |
Honam Part Energy’s Active Harmonic Filter
Honam Part Energy has designed and manufactured the Pod Series Active Harmonic Filter using advanced technology. The company has developed this filter with a rated capacity of 15 amps and the ability to compensate for 2nd to 50th order harmonics, specifically to improve power quality in networks with nonlinear loads such as decoder hall equipment and broadcast hall encoders. The robust structure and automatic adjustment of this filter ensure stable operation and reduce the destructive effects of harmonics. Honam Part Energy also manufactures this filter with high-quality raw materials and international standards such as IEC 61000-3-2, which ensure its durability in harsh conditions.
Analysis of Results
Installing Honam Part Energy’s Active Harmonic Filter significantly improves power quality. This filter reduces THDI from high values (up to 78.5%) to very low values (up to 1.1-2.0%) and THDU from initial values (up to 90.6%) to acceptable values (up to 0.5-3.3%). This reduction is compatible with IEEE 519-1992 standard (maximum 5% for THD) and optimizes equipment performance. Also, this device stops decoder and encoder devices from burning and eliminates equipment failure due to harmonics. With this success, Honam Part Energy demonstrates its ability to use this technology in other industries such as steel mills or production lines.
Economic Impact
Using an active harmonic filter reduces operating costs. This filter reduces energy losses due to harmonics and Bojnourd Audio and Video achieves significant savings in electricity consumption. Also, preventing the breakdown of expensive equipment such as decoders and encoders minimizes repair and replacement costs. Honam Part Energy predicts that the return on investment of this project will be achieved within the next two years, ensuring long-term profitability.
User Experience and Feedback
Technical staff of Bojnourd Broadcasting and Television Station report that after installing the filter, the stability of the systems’ performance has increased significantly. They no longer encounter unexpected outages or frequent failures. The project manager is satisfied with the quick response of the Honam Part Energy team in supporting and providing customized solutions. Honam Part Energy can implement this positive experience as a model for similar projects in other broadcasting centers.
