NEPLAN Electricity is a software tool for the analysis, planning, optimization and simulation of electrical networks. The strength of the software is the very user-friendly graphical interface with extensive libraries for network elements, protection devices and control circuits, which allows the user to carry out the study cases very efficiently. The software has a modular concept, is based on international standards such as IEC, ANSI, IEEE, etc. and is customizable for the European and American market. It is used in transmission, distribution, production/industrial networks, among others, for network planning and investment, power quality, multi-period optimization, protection adjustment and evaluation, dynamic simulation (RMS/EMT). The static and dynamic models of 1-2-3-phase AC and DC networks (with neutral and earth wire) are highly accurate and efficient. Very large networks (above 500,000 busbars) can be easily controlled with new IT techniques and algorithms.

NEPLAN has a client-server architecture and is able to run in a multi-user environment with a shared SQL database. This facilitates teamwork both within a business unit and by sharing projects between different departments or companies. Here is an overview of the software

NEPLAN’s Asset Management module is a tool to answer the question “What happens if…”. This tool offers fully flexible models for modeling any system. It allows asset managers to evaluate each asset individually or in groups to determine the short-term and long-term asset strategy in order to optimize investment and maintenance planning, such as the reliability of energy supply sources, etc. The software covers the following:

NEPLAN Gas, NEPLAN Water and NEPLAN Heating/Cooling are software tools for the analysis, planning, optimization and simulation of networks. The user-friendly graphical interface allows the user to carry out the study cases very efficiently.

This customizable software has a modular concept and covers all relevant and useful aspects for the calculation of gas, water, heating/cooling and integrated energy networks. NEPLAN is the only tool on the market that allows the user to simulate electricity, gas, water and heating networks simultaneously. This feature enables the user to model any interactions between those networks.

The pipeline calculation modules generally have the following features:

Display of the pipeline network with nodes and connecting elements such as pipes, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, etc.
Calculation of large networks
Thermo-hydraulic model for each element
Advanced pump and valve models that allow the adjustment of pressure, flow rate and pressure drop at each node or element.

NEPLAN Anywhere is a browser-based software with a simplified graphical user interface that simplifies everyday tasks in one tool, such as:

Integration of geographic data from a Geographic Information System (GIS)

(Smart) integration of meter and measurement data from a Measurement Data Management (MDM) system

Online monitoring of MV/LV networks

Evaluation and management of connection requests for solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations, including import/update from an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

It is an add-on product to the comprehensive planning tool NEPLAN
10/360. NEPLAN Anywhere communicates with external applications
via standard interfaces, such as web services, and thus acts as a
data center for the exchange of network and measurement data. All common
Internet browsers (such as Edge, Chrome or Safari) are supported.

NEPLAN 360 is the only top-of-the-line network calculation tool that runs in the cloud. NEPLAN 360 is available everywhere via the Internet using a NEPLAN application, while NEPLAN 10 is still installed on-premises, whether on a local intranet or as a standalone solution on a desktop.
Intranet solution – NEPLAN V10 (on-premises)

For the intranet solution, the software is installed on the customer server as well as the SQL database containing the network. The multi-user database is based on MS-SQL and is designed to manage large networks as well as a large number of users. A comprehensive user administration is available to manage access rights to the master database. Study cases (e.g. network development plans) originating from the master database are managed specifically by the user. The software can access map servers used by Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to display any map along with the network. Network data can also be stored in local files for use in the desktop solution.
Cloud solution – NEPLAN 360

There is no difference between an intranet (on premise) and a cloud solution. As a result, new license models are made available to users, so that the use of the software is only possible for a limited time. Network data is stored in the cloud, but can also be exported to a local machine.

Both solutions have the advantage of allowing easy maintenance in a company with more users, e.g. multinational companies. No installation on desktop computers is required and there are no copy protection issues and all users use the same software version.

NEPLAN V10/360 is accessible via web services and thus allows easy integration with external GIS, SCADA or Smart Grid applications, which is a big advantage over the classic desktop solution. Therefore, the software can function as a software as a service (SaaS).

XGSLab (Over and Under Ground System Laboratory) is one of the most powerful software packages for ground system analysis, electromagnetic fields, interference and lightning analysis and the only software on the market that takes into account EN and IEEE standards.

XGSLab includes the following modules:

GSA (GROUNDING SYSTEM ANALYSIS) for regular application (usable in most practical cases).

GSA_FD (GROUNDING SYSTEM ANALYSIS in frequency domain) for electromagnetic fields and interference assessment for overhead and underground systems and for fault current distribution calculations.

XGSA_FD (GROUNDING SYSTEM ANALYSIS in frequency domain) for electromagnetic fields and interference assessment for overhead and underground systems and for lightning effects and fault current distribution calculations.

XGSA_TD (GROUNDING SYSTEM ANALYSIS in time domain) for general applications with overhead and underground systems.

All modules are integrated into an “all-in-one” package based on a hybrid computational approach (or “PEEC” approach) that combines transmission line, circuit and electromagnetic theory in a single computational model.

Hybrid approaches combine the strengths of other approaches and are suitable for engineering purposes, as they allow the analysis of complex scenarios including external parameters such as voltage, current and impedance. For these reasons, XGSLab can be considered a real laboratory.
