A component that has a specific, usually constant, electrical resistance. Electrical resistance limits the flow of electrons in a circuit. Resistors are passive components; meaning they only consume power and cannot produce it. These components are usually added to active parts of the circuit such as op amps, microcontrollers, and other integrated circuits. The most important roles of resistors in a circuit include current limiting, voltage division, and pull-up input/output lines.
